Located in Sommières, at the heart of the Languedoc region, Château l’Argentier is run by Élisabeth & Francois JOURDAN.
With 24 hectares under vines, including 2.20 hectares classified under the Languedoc denomination « Sommières » and 5.94 hectares classified under the Languedoc denomination « Grès de Montpellier », Château l'Argentier is one of the oldest wine estate in Sommières. .
Acquired in 1937, by Élisabeth's grandmother, Paule MARTIN-GRANEL, Château l'Argentier had been ran by André & Raymond MARTIN (Paule's sons) from 1937 to 1983.
In 1983 they were joined by Élisabeth JOURDAN (Raymond's daugther) and her husband François. Born and raised in Burgundy, François learned his winemaking and viticulture at the Clos de Malte in Santenay.
Immediatly convinced by the high viticultural potential of « l'Argentier » terroir, the young couple decided to replant new vineyards of Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre and to rebuild the old cellar. In 1987 the estate was entirely classified under the new AOC Coteaux du Languedoc. Since then, their vineyards had been classified under two new Languedoc denomination (« Sommières » & « Grès de Montpellier ») and their wines had gained international recognition from the trade.
Young Languedoc wine pioneers during the 80's, Élisabeth and François Jourdan are now figures of the Languedoc fine wines revolution.
